AWARENESS

1. Environment

Awareness of climate change and other environmental concerns has increased in the last few decades, thanks in part to documentaries like "An Inconvenient Truth" and the popularity of Earth Day. However, there is still a lot of work to be done to increase public awareness, particularly in underdeveloped countries. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has outlined several key ways to increase awareness of environmental issues worldwide. These are as listed:

  • The Media
  • Classroom Education

2. Women employment

MURDS believes that no development process is completed without the participation of women. It is sad that the social and economic position of women in India is still very nominal and women are cornered in every aspect. A lot of programmes needed to be implemented in order to motivate women for taking charge of.

In an effort to empower our women, MURDS regularly organize several women related programmes such as observation of “International Women’s Day”, mother’s meetings, personal hygiene programmes and women economic empowerment programmes.

MURDS is also organizing special programme for legal awareness, awareness against family violence, dowry death, health, economic independence, nutrition, and social issues.
MURDS is organizing Women Economic Empowerment Programme, a vocational training for young women for their economic empowerment and self independence. The content of the vocational training programme is based on local needs so that they could start their earning easily through production and sale of the products produced during the learning of the programme. Total number of beneficiaries is 112.

3. Legal aid of women

Women are very vulnerable to social exclusion; experience the most civil justice problems and the prevention and resolution of these, in a complex system, legal advice is a key to tackling these social exclusions.

Early advice stops problems escalating or multiplying. MURDS aims to make their Free Legal Advice (FLA) services as accessible as possible for the women of all sectors of the community.

MURDS provides services including legal information, advice, representation and specialist social work support to women. Our Legal Experts provide vital advice and information on a wide range of issues to women regarding domestic violence, dowry, gender inequality and workplace etc. absolutely free of cost.

The overall objective of the Free Legal Advice service is to empower women by facilitating their access to legal rights by way of legal representation, counseling and legal education.

The aims and objectives of this service of MURDS in order to have increased representation of women are to reach to the needy women whose problems have not yet been solved; to increase access to legal representation to marginalized women; and to enhance the capacity of women to fight for their rights and prevent violations being committed against them.

The policy of Free Legal Advice for women is to uphold and protect the rights of the women giving legal advice, thereby enhancing this full empowerment in our society.

4. Child labour

MURDS had taken initiative to generate Awareness Camp on Anti-Child Labour   at Islampur in Murshidabad. The initiation includes an Awareness Generation Programme and a Rehabilitation Programme, helping them going back the mainstream of life. The camp consists of 65 children, who were withdrawn from Child Labour. The programme is specifically aimed at reducing Child Labour from the society.

5. Consumer

As part of the awareness generation campaign MURDS was conducted awareness lectures about the rights and duties of the consumer in the different schools of Raninagar-I & II blocks in the district of Murshidabad.
