Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan (NBA) previously called Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC) is a Community-led total sanitation program initiated by Government of India in 1999. It is a demand-driven and people-centered sanitation program. It evolved from the limited achievements of the first structured programme for rural sanitation in India, the Central Rural Sanitation Programme, which had minimal community participation. The main goal of Total Sanitation Campaign is to eradicate the practice of open defecation by 2017. Community-led total sanitation is not focused on building infrastructure, but on changing cultural norms to prevent open defecation. In Maharashtra where the program started more than 2000 Gram Panchayats have achieved "open defecation free" status. Villages that achieve this status receive monetary rewards and high publicity under a program called Nirmal Gram Puraskar. The campaigning ambassador for Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan is Vidya Balan. Government of India gives 10000 rupees to every family to construct a toilet.
2. Independence Day
Independence Day, observed annually on 15 August, is a National Holiday in India commemorating the nation's independence from the British Empire on 15 August 1947. India attained independence following an Independence Movement noted for largely nonviolent resistance and civil disobedience led by the Indian National Congress (INC).
On 15 August 1947, Jawaharlal Nehru, who had become the first Prime Minister of India that day, raised the Indian national flag above the Lahore Gate of the Red Fort in Delhi. On each subsequent Independence Day, the Prime Minister has raised the flag and given a speech. In spirit of this MURDS also celebrate each Independence Day in its premise.
3. Aids & Application
Aids and appliances help people with disabilities or age-related constraints to achieve more autonomy and mobility. They can also be used as part of a rehabilitation program as well as contributing to a better integration of people with disabilities within society.
A great number of aids and appliances are available on the market for people whose disabilities might be a result of an illness, an accident or old-age. Such devices can include walking-aids, wheel-chairs, prostheses or hearing-aids. Mobile communication also provides people with disabilities with many new possibilities; new devices are constantly developed in this field, such as speech- recognition programs for the computer.
4. Early marriage
- Marriage should be a time for celebration and joy – unless you are one of the 64 million girls around the world forced into marriage before the age of 18.
- Imagine the life those girls -----who are 7, 10 or even 16 years of age — endure. Child brides have a diminished chance of completing their education and are at a higher risk of being physically abused, contracting HIV and other diseases, and dying while pregnant or giving birth.
- But it doesn’t have to be this way. Please join MURDS in helping bring an end to this gross human rights violation that puts the lives of 39,000 more young girls at risk every single day. MURDS works towards gender equality, women's empowerment, champions among men and boys, and an end to violence against women. Together we can end child marriage.
MURDS believes it is very important to stimulate awareness about the environment and to enhance public action. Through the observance of World Environment Day on 5th day of June and related actions and workshops MURDS wants to make children more aware of the environment they live in and the necessity to preserve this environment.
During this one-day event, which was attended by 130 children, several environmental topics have been addressed, like clean water, trees, and litter on the streets. The children were stimulated through games, like planning new trees, to think about their living environment.
